Supermarket Snooping and what your store-card says about you

OK, who’s got a Tesco club-card or a-n-other store card? What does this do for you? You get occasional vouchers and benefits such as tokens and days out. In return, you provide critical demographic data on your habits, revealing what you buy across many purchases. This gives information as to what you like, what you buy regularly, and what you treat yourself to. It also gives away a lot more, for example, it can reveal significant detail about your diet, including alcohol consumption and smoking habits, and track the healthiness of your food selection and thus provide an insight into your lifestyle sufficient to calculate an indicator of risk for markets such as insurance and healthcare. Therefore, think what it could say about you before you regularly start treating yourself to that 4-pack of beer/bottle of wine/bottle of scotch or packet of cigarettes and/or rizzlas, whatever your poison, along with your weekly shop on your club-card as i am sure that one-day your Supermarket-provided insurances will go up in line with your in-store spending habits!

So next time you go shopping – think – what does your shop say about you and your habits?
